CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On August 29th, Pitt County authorities charged three people with misdemeanor street takeover after an illegal street racing incident near Saintsville Road and seized a Ford Mustang, Chevy Corvette, and Mustang Cobra—more charges are expected as the investigation continues. WITN
- ➤ Greenville Police will launch PSAs and a door-to-door good neighbor initiative in Cypress Glen to address loud mufflers that disturb residents at night—officials remind drivers that modifying mufflers is illegal under state and city rules. Local leaders hope this new effort will encourage drivers to reduce noise and be better neighbors. WITN

- ➤ ECU assistant professor Dr. Christopher Wolfe teaches anthropology and uses forensic work to show how human variation shapes everyday life—he solved a 42‑year-old mystery in Jack’s Creek and guides students in practical techniques. Wolfe has worked at ECU for three years and stresses that understanding our differences helps in every field. East Carolina University
- ➤ East Carolina University will host anthropologist Sam Rad on Sept. 11 in the Voyages of Discovery Series where she will deliver a talk titled 'Thriving in Times of Radical Change'—a presentation that will explore how digital technology may affect human connection. - ➤ Governor Josh Stein announced an executive order that creates a statewide AI leadership council, an AI accelerator in the Information Technology Department, and oversight teams in each state agency to handle new technology projects. Information Technology Secretary Teena Piccione and Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley will co-chair the council as state officials plan to support job growth and manage rising energy needs. WITN
