CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 19-year-old Nathaniel Faulk was arrested yesterday by Pitt County deputies for allegedly beating a five to six-week-old Pitbull named Copper—who suffered broken ribs and bruised lungs—and he remains in jail without bond with a court appearance scheduled in Craven County next week. WITN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Chloe Hamlett, a fourth-semester ECU nursing student, spent an intensive eight‐week externship in the cardiac surgery ICU at ECU Health—gaining real-world skills that boosted her confidence and led her to accept a position on the unit after graduation. The program provided hands‐on training as a Nurse Assistant II—helping her master critical care procedures. East Carolina University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Greenville Fire Rescue Chief Brock Davenport ended his career today after serving since August 1999 and said he will miss his team and community while looking forward to more time with his family—he assured residents that the department stays strong even though his replacement has not been named yet. - ➤ North Carolina officials are phasing out DEHP, a toxic chemical found in over 70% of IV bags, after animal studies showed it can harm the liver and kidneys— the Toxic Free Medical Devices Act signed by Governor Josh Stein and supported by Representative Dr. Timothy Reeder will ban DEHP by 2030. The law requires that DEHP be removed over the bags’ shelf life to lower health risks. Public Radio East
- ➤ Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said that farmers in Western North Carolina who applied for disaster crop loss assistance received the first relief checks and more will be mailed statewide in the coming weeks. The checks come from a $478 million disaster recovery package approved by the General Assembly after severe weather and a drought in 2024—showing urgent support for the farming community.
