ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Greenville Fire/Rescue rescued seven people from flooded roads after overnight flooding—officials said crews worked quickly to secure the area. WITN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 21-year-old man from Ahoskie, Qualik Avery, was arrested this morning by Greenville police on charges of assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon, serious bodily injury, inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of marijuana after allegedly choking a woman and firing a gun at her + he is being held without bond at Pitt County Jail. - ➤ A STEM Boat Camp engaged local children with boat-themed activities that promoted hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and math—offering a new way for Greenville kids to explore STEM subjects. WITN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Heavy rains flooded roads and parking lots around Greenville overnight, including near East Carolina University where Greenville Fire/Rescue rescued two people from cars stuck in water at about 5 a.m. Online maps show many streets remain flooded and flood watches will be in effect until 8 a.m.—rain is likely to redevelop in the afternoon. - ➤ Rising waters from Tar River and Green Mill Run forced the closure of several Greenville parks today, including Wildwood Park and Elm Street Park. Greenville Recreation and Parks urged residents to obey posted signs and stay clear of unsafe areas (Elm Street Park’s trails were cordoned off) (picnic areas had debris). WITN
- ➤ Greenville Utilities reported a wastewater spill from flash floods in Pitt County that released about 9,600 gallons into Grindle Creek — an additional 5,400 gallons discharged from a manhole did not reach surface water. The agency responded immediately, monitoring the spill until it subsided around 5:30 p.m. and will build a new pump station out of the flood plain that is scheduled to operate in summer. WNCT
- ➤ Heavy rains on June 16 flooded several parks in Greenville. Public Works officials and local drivers discussed flood concerns — planning steps to protect area roads. WITN
- ➤ After over six inches of rain fell overnight, roads in Greenville are flooded and rescuers helped seven people near Evans Street + Deck Street and at Charles Boulevard near 14th Street, while parking lots at ECU College Hill remain underwater+rain is expected this afternoon. WITN
