- ➤ The Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge is accepting applications for the 2025-26 Grassroots Arts Program Grants and Artist Support Grants; the Grassroots grants are for Pitt County organizations planning projects from July 1 to May 31 — Artist Support applications, open to residents of six counties, must be submitted by October 4 with grant amounts ranging from $500 to $4,000. - ➤ Rebecca Cloninger, Kamryn Henderson and Hailey Lewis from the Brody Scholars program finished their second semester at East Carolina University and are using their full-tuition scholarships—which cover tuition, living expenses and a summer enrichment program—to gain patient care and mentoring experience. The program, started in 1983 by the Brody family and the Brody Foundation, supports community service projects and keeps most scholars working in eastern North Carolina. East Carolina University

- ➤ The Greenville City Council approved an operating budget of $185.3 million last night—keeping the property tax rate unchanged at $39.54. City leaders said the plan will invest in public safety, infrastructure, affordable housing and recreation with funds for projects like $500,000 for economic development and $4.25 million for capital improvements—amounts that will support over 50 community events. - ➤ Pitt County health officials are urging residents to follow the 3 D’s—drain standing water, dress in light clothing, and defend with EPA-approved insect repellents—as National Mosquito Control Awareness Week will run from June 15–21 to help prevent mosquito-borne illnesses.
