- ➤ The third Concert on the Common was cancelled last week but will resume tomorrow when the Fleetwood Mac tribute band Landslide performs classic hits such as Rhiannon and Don’t Stop on Thursday, June 12. Greenville Toyota will present a check to the Children’s Miracle Network during the intermission—owner Craig Goess and Maynard Children’s Hospital representatives will be at the event—while free admission, food trucks, and cold beverages are available. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Morgan Worsley, a D.H. Conley graduate who earned an associate degree from Pitt Community College, was named a Robertson Scholar and will attend Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill with a full academic scholarship—she is one of three North Carolina students chosen for the program. WITN
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ North Carolina homeowners already saw a 7.5% increase while car insurance will rise by 5% starting October 1 due to distracted driving, speeding and higher repair costs; another 7.5% hike for homeowners is expected next June — the state’s plan also lowers motorcycle liability by 16.3%. Retired homeowner Brenda Ernest said she had to raise her deductible to keep up with the higher costs, and many residents voice similar concerns over rising premiums. WITN

- ➤ Attorney General Jeff Jackson filed a lawsuit against 23andMe (which recently filed for bankruptcy) to stop the company from selling private genetic data from over 15 million customers without their permission. WITN

- ➤ The Pitt County Health Department earned reaccreditation with honors on May 9th — a recognition it has received each time since 2017 — as part of North Carolina’s local health department accreditation program. WITN
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Students in Pitt Community College’s Construction and Industrial Trades program will build three affordable homes in West Greenville this fall as part of a partnership with the City of Greenville. Officials said the $450,000 project — which includes a $200,000 city contribution — will sell the homes with proceeds returning to the community and may serve as a model for future housing efforts.
