ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An initial report released Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board described the moments leading up to the March 14 plane crash in Greenville that killed a dentist and his wife—though officials have not yet determined the cause.  The Daily Reflector

CRIME NEWS

  • O'Joshua Roberts, 36, was arrested yesterday afternoon at his apartment (416 Winslow Point Drive) after deputies found more than four pounds of marijuana, nearly a pound of cocaine, heroin and a dozen MDMA pills, and he now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.  WITN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • City leaders celebrated National Travel and Tourism Week today as they noted that tourism spending hit $312 million—local events like Pirate Fest and the Little League World Series continue to drive growth in Greenville. A new visitor center will open soon to help tourists explore local hotels, restaurants, and attractions.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Five East Carolina University students were named the 2025 Robert H. Wright Leadership Award recipients for their service and leadership— they will be honored at the spring commencement ceremony on May 9.  East Carolina University
  • An Ellmhurst teacher was honored as a hero for quickly helping first-grader Kennedy Castillo during a Monday Board of Education meeting—witnesses say the teacher’s swift action made a critical difference for the young student.  The Daily Reflector
  • Governor Josh Stein announced the Teacher Advisory Committee on Teacher Appreciation Day; the committee—which includes Eastern Carolina educators such as Rachel Candaso of Wellcome Middle School, Elyse Cannon McRae of South Central High School, Tamika Farmer of G.W. Carver Elementary School, Christian Martin of HJ MacDonald Middle School, and Marisha Merchant of White Oak High School—will advise on education issues and serve as ambassadors statewide.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Greenville City Council approved a $14 million Town Commons project that replaces a 57-year-old bulkhead and adds a multi-use path, seating, overlooks, a west plaza, a boat dock/gangway, and upgrades to the amphitheater—Trader Construction will manage the work with $5 million from the state and additional city, ARPA, and design funds—ensuring key park improvements.  WNCT
