- ➤ A mother and son placed three blessing boxes at Thomas Foreman Park, South Greenville Park and Hillcrest Park in Pitt County to help residents cope with food insecurity amid rising grocery costs. Their project, named Max’s Mercies—supported by Jack and Jill and New Life Church—aims to provide a reliable source of food essentials during a time when prices are expected to increase by 2.7 percent in 2025. - ➤ WITN is partnering with the American Red Cross to hold a blood drive at its parking lot on Thursday, May 15th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.—community members are encouraged to register in advance so that blood supplies remain ready for emergencies during the busy summer season. WITN
- ➤ The 40th annual Pigskin Pig-Out began Friday at 6 p.m. at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium (with 40 cooking groups competing for a $500 prize) and continues today as judges held their decision at 7 a.m. Saturday. Community members can buy plates starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and will join a celebration for Peedee the Pirate’s birthday (featuring music and vendors) before a Purple-Gold spring football game starts at noon. - ➤ A student was found with a weapon at South Central High on April 25 at 8:30 a.m.—school administrators and the SRO quickly handled the situation without incident—and the student will face discipline under the school code. WNCT
- ➤ A weapon was found at South Central High School around 8:30 a.m. yesterday and a student involved will face disciplinary action—Greenville police are still investigating the incident. WITN

- ➤ The ECU Board of Trustees celebrated a year of academic, athletic and fiscal achievements at its final meeting by approving degrees for 4,660 graduates and a $1.18 billion operating budget. They also broke ground on the $24.5 million Isley Indoor Performance Center and Wornom Family Field—funded by over 2,500 donors—to enhance the campus athletic facilities. East Carolina University
