- ➤ Today, Stone Soup 2025 is held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church parish hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—organized by the St. Paul’s Food Pantry and local groups offering soup meals and artisan bowls that help buy groceries for food-insecure families. WITN
- ➤ Today, the 12th annual Stone Soup Fundraiser was held at St. Paul's Church parish hall from 11 a.m. til 2 p.m. to benefit the food pantry off 4th Street as local chefs and restaurants donated meals. Seventy volunteers, more than 15 restaurants and over 150 businesses helped raise funds that will buy groceries for food-insecure families — up to 400 people benefit each week. WITN

- ➤ Greene County woman Sandra Dixon (58) is accused of stealing $345,989 from Clifton Powers (70), a Pitt County resident who died on October 24th; she faces charges of embezzlement, exploit disable/elder capacity and felony conspiracy and was released after posting a $200,000 bond. WITN
- ➤ The State Bureau of Investigation arrested 21-year-old Zy’Kevious Sherod of Greenville for a January 30 shooting in Robersonville that injured Patrick Adams when he fired a 10 mm semi-automatic handgun into a home and apartment, and Sherod now faces charges—including attempted first-degree murder and other firearm offenses. - ➤ Author Jeff VanderMeer spoke at ECU where he and art professor Scott Eagle opened an art show at Faulkner Gallery at Joyner Library. The artwork—based on decades long collaboration—will be on display through August while VanderMeer previewed ideas for a special edition of his novel Absolution. East Carolina University

- ➤ Three ECU Brody School of Medicine faculty members — Drs. Lynn Morris, Mary Catherine Turner and Lacy Hobgood — were named 2025 Master Educators on April 10; they received white coats, plaques and pins to honor their excellence in teaching, mentorship and educational leadership. East Carolina University
- ➤ Yolonda Holmes is a kindergarten teacher at Northeast Elementary in Kinston who was named Teacher of the Week due to community nominations. She has taught for 17 years — having published four children’s books and two educational workbooks as she works to create a safe and engaging classroom for her students. WITN

- ➤ ECU Health is hosting an open house today at 1 p.m. on the lower landing pad at the corner of Heart and Services Drives to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its EastCare program, which has provided critical air and ground transport for patients.
