- ➤ Tedi Bear Children's Advocacy Center hosted an event this morning to mark Child Abuse Prevention Month by highlighting free comprehensive services for children facing abuse, including forensic interviews, medical evaluations, and specialized therapy provided in partnership with ECU’s Brody School of Medicine + ECU Health. - ➤ Olivia Tate is highlighted as Teacher of the Week at Chinquapin Elementary School in Greenville. Originally from Tennessee, the 4th-grade teacher creates a safe classroom where students are encouraged (to ask questions and take risks) and develop independent thinking. WITN
- ➤ Parents opposed the planned removal of nearly 70 teaching positions at Pitt County Schools during a Board meeting on Monday, Apr. 13 plus officials said they will work to mitigate the cuts. The Daily Reflector

- ➤ The U.S. Forest Service banned campfires and open burning in Pisgah, Nantahala, Uwharrie, and Croatan National Forests starting Wednesday due to dry conditions and elevated wildfire risk; visitors can still use portable propane stoves and metal fire pits (provided at developed campgrounds) until conditions improve. - ➤ With post offices closed today, tax professionals from Winterville warn that late mailed returns may not be processed in time (filers who are not tech savvy should file electronically or file for an extension) to avoid penalties. WITN
- ➤ The statewide burn ban continues today, nearly three weeks since it began on Mar. 28 as officials warn of dangerous fire conditions. Violators face a $100 fine + extra costs to cover court fees and fire suppression. WITN

- ➤ Certified nursing assistant Antoinette Conley was fired on Wednesday morning from Edgecombe Health Center just two days after she started.
