  • The 13th annual Stone Soup fundraiser will benefit Feed Your Neighbor Community Food Pantry by offering soup+salad+dessert and additional items at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall on Wednesday, April 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  WITN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Christeyns held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday at its new Staton Road facility, which consolidates its North American headquarters and manufacturing operations. The CEO said the new facility is set to boost economic growth and job opportunities — with support from Mayor P.J. Connelly.  WITN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ECU earned Gold-level Military Friendly School (Military Spouse Friendly School) designations from VIQTORY on March 25, reflecting its long-standing support for military-affiliated students.  East Carolina University
  • Bertie County Middle School has named Spanish teacher Yesica Diaz Teacher of the Week for her work inspiring student connections through her grant-funded project — From My Classroom to Yours — that links her pupils with former classmates in Colombia.   WITN
  • East Carolina University students attended an Education Career Fair at the Greenville Convention Center where nearly 80 school districts offered full-time and internship opportunities (including free headshots) for education career seekers. The event connected students with potential employers ahead of graduation.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than three weeks after Greenville lowered the speed limit on 10th Street from 35 mph to 25 mph (Elm to Evans), pedestrians say some drivers are slowing down while others warn unsafe crossing habits remain. Police now ticket speeding drivers.  WITN
  • Officials say that the coastal evacuation tool Hurrevac, used by over 30,000 local and state officials, is reportedly at risk of expiring Friday due to a FEMA renewal delay (though FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security have said the contract remains active).  Public Radio East
  • Governor Josh Stein announced nearly $26 million in awards via the Stop-Gap Solutions program to bring high-speed internet to more than 5,000 rural locations by the end of 2026. Brightspeed, Fybe and FOCUS Broadband are expanding service in eastern North Carolina including Pitt, Beaufort and Carteret counties.  Public Radio East

  • Greenville Women’s Care, a clinic serving the community for nearly 40 years on Stantonsburg Road, is closing on June 1; patients will transfer care to Greenville OB/GYN and Physicians East Arlington Main Campus.  WITN

  • J.H. Rose won 7-5 against Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday evening after leading 7-2 until a double play in the 7th inning halted a comeback (the win gave them a 10-1 record as they finished a three-game road trip in Jacksonville today).  WITN
