ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Monday, a medical examiner confirmed that a Greenville dentist and his wife were killed when their private plane crashed near Pitt-Greenville Airport on March 14.  The Daily Reflector

CRIME NEWS

  • A New York man, 27-year-old Matthew Warren from Buffalo, was arrested on Monday, March 24th and charged with killing 36-year-old Rashawn Gray who died shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday near Rountree Road outside Ayden; he is held without bond.  WITN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Pitt County Emergency Management urges residents to be ready for spring storms that may bring strong winds, hail, and isolated flooding—residents should prepare an emergency backpack and download the Hyper-Reach app for timely alerts. Officials stress that being weather-aware is key to keeping families safe as severe weather continues through spring and into summer.  WITN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday night, the Greenville City Council voted 4—2 to file a lawsuit against Camping World for flying an oversized American flag and a flagpole 130 feet tall that violate city code. The city will address zoning and pending code violations noted since Oct 31 after the company failed to appeal or pay fines.  WITN
  • Today, the intersection of Evans Street and Fifth Street closed as part of downtown Greenville’s BUILD Project that will upgrade sidewalks, brick crosswalks, traffic signals, site furnishings, and street trees over the next 3-4 months. Downtown businesses remain open although only pedestrians can use the block of Evans Street between Fourth Street and Fifth Street—drivers are advised to detour via Washington Street, Reade Circle, or Cotanche Street.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • East Carolina University + local partners will host R U OK? Day on March 26 with health fairs and mental health check-ins at campus and school locations. The initiative will reach over 50,000 students and employees to promote open conversations on mental well-being.  East Carolina University
  • Local partners including the City of Greenville, ECU, Pitt County Schools, and local employers + the Greenville-Pitt Chamber of Commerce will host an R U OK? Day event on March 26 to promote mental health awareness and encourage open conversation. The event will urge residents to check in on friends and family amid growing concerns over loneliness and mental illness.  Pitt County
