EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On March 14, ten educators were inducted into the Educators Hall of Fame at ECU, including former chair Dr. Marjorie Campo Ringler—honored by 31 colleagues, family members and friends—for her lasting service in education. The ceremony celebrated their dedication and established a $1,500 gift to support future merit-based scholarships. East Carolina University
- ➤ Today, 69 graduating students from East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine learned their residency placements on National Residency Match Day. The match assigns each student to an accredited training program that they must complete before they can practice independently. WITN
- ➤ East Carolina University's Arthur Graduate School of Business is hosting a series of events at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium for veterans to connect with career and community resources today. The Military Veteran Enablement Coalition runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—followed by the Military Career Transition event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.—with the Silkies Hike planned for tomorrow at 10 a.m. to help prevent veteran suicide. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ After heavy rains eased drought in parts of eastern North Carolina, the North Carolina Forest Service banned open burning statewide effective last Friday — the rule cancels new permits to lower wildfire risk. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said anyone who breaks the rule may face a $100 fine and $183 in court costs. Public Radio East

- ➤ Greenville Fire/Rescue earned the ISO Class 1 rating—which shows it is one of the top fire crews based on water supply, emergency communications, and community outreach—and the team of 161 first responders works all the time and will be honored at the city council meeting on Monday. WITN
- ➤ Two downtown intersections reopened this evening after repairs under the BUILD Project cleared Fifth Street and Cotanche Street and Fifth Street and South Greene Street. Construction will continue at Evans Street and Fifth Street on Monday—detours will send eastbound traffic to Washington Street or Reade Circle and westbound drivers to Reade Street or Cotanche Street while nearby businesses stay open.
