- ➤ The Children’s Miracle Network is asking local businesses to donate ahead of its 40th-annual telethon on May 31st and June 1st to help fund upgrades and outreach at the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at ECU Health Medical Center — businesses can choose from various donation tiers to receive public recognition during the event. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jonathan Monk was convicted on all thirteen counts—including four counts of first-degree murder—for his role in the deaths of four prison employees during the October 12 escape attempt at Pasquotank Correctional Institution, and he now awaits sentencing to decide between a death penalty and life in prison. - ➤ ECU police arrested 19-year-old Jason Perez on Tuesday—he faces multiple drug charges including possession with intent to sell cocaine, marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms—after drugs were found in his dorm room at Jones Hall in Greenville. WITN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ East Carolina University’s Thomas D. Arthur Graduate School of Business is hosting three events to support military veterans with career resources, networking and mental health support at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium + the events aim to build career skills and community connections. The first two events run Friday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m., and the Silkies Hike is scheduled Saturday, March 22 at 10 a.m. + community members, employers and organizations are encouraged to attend. - ➤ Rachel Turner (a first-year teacher at Moss Hill Elementary School in Lenoir County) is named Teacher of the Week as she uses creative lessons to help first grade students feel valued. WITN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Greenville Utilities Commission is accepting enrollment applications for its first community solar farm located next to its LNG plant across from Bradford Creek Soccer Complex to let electric customers, including apartment renters, access solar power. The 500‐kilowatt facility—built by Axis Energy with about 1,000 panels generating roughly 88,000 kilowatt hours monthly—will begin construction in March and be fully operational in June while each panel adds about $3 to a bill. - ➤ A bill introduced Tuesday restricts the wait times patients face for insurance coverage of treatments delayed by the prior authorization process. Lawmakers including Dr. Grant Campbell said the bill sets deadlines for approvals and requires insurance company doctors to be licensed in North Carolina. Public Radio East

- ➤ Nearly 200 physician assistants and students headed to Raleigh Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m. to rally for Senate Bill 190, with over two dozen from the East, which if passed would let North Carolina join the PA Licensure Compact and help reduce wait times for patients—especially in rural areas.
