  • Pitt County Animal Services has lowered adoption fees for dogs and cats one year or older until they find homes — shelter officials say the change aims to ease overcrowding.  The Daily Reflector

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The UNC System board approved a 3% tuition hike for incoming ECU undergraduates that will raise in-state costs by $133 per year and out-of-state fees by $622 starting next semester—student leaders say the revenue will support essential advising while some parents remain concerned about finances.  WITN
  • Pitt Community College (PCC) hosted local employers Thursday morning in Winterville for a work-based learning event, giving students a chance to learn about career options, available jobs, and internships.  The Daily Reflector

  • Gov. Stein ordered all state flags to stay half-staff through sunset on March 7 to honor Reverend Jesse Jackson and Master Trooper Stien Davis Jr., who died on duty Sunday. Davis' funeral is set for March 4 in Lumberton, and Jackson’s private service will be held in Chicago on March 7.  WITN
  • City leaders approved an investment in higher education benefits for city employees to boost career growth in Greenville. The program will begin next month and offer access to training and tuition support – details were provided at last week’s meeting.  WITN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health experts advise Greenville residents to review their measles vaccine records and get vaccinated if needed as cases continue to appear — a measure seen as key in protecting community health.  The Daily Reflector

  • ECU beat Rutgers 14-2 Friday via the mercy rule in the annual Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville. Pitcher Ethan Norby struck out 10 in 5.2 innings to earn his first win of the season; the Pirates are set to play Troy and Western Carolina this weekend.  WITN
